Trap

A seed adrift in the stream of life

A youth unheedingly free

A sheltered bank inviting a temporary sojourn

A collage of faces offering bouts of friendship

A sudden current that rends the seed into motion

A choice of life that sends her asunder

A rooted mat that promises support

A stable path that leads to the future

A tender root that probes the new soil

A purchase of land to lay the foundation

A tender shoot to taste the heavens

A simple luxury to reward her actions

A growing net of leaves for the future tree

A picture framed, the mortgage paid, a favorite chair

A solid bark shaded by a crown of green

A rise to stability, a view of success

A tree so tall it sees the unsampled banks

A voice questioning, “Is this where I meant to be?”

A tree uprooted would pay with its life for freedom

A woman’s ensnared by the trappings of normalcy.
